The Giver: Utopian Society

Utopian Society: utopia /juːˈtpiə/ is a community or society possessing highly desirable or near perfect qualities.

By now, you have gathered that Jonas, our main character lives in a Utopian Society. They live in a very rigid community where things are done in a very specific way, every day, no matter what. They have many daily rituals they follow to ensure their society is functioning properly.

Jonas' community consists of every person and all of their experiences are exactly the same. The climate is controlled, and competition is eliminated in favor of a community in which everyone works for the common good. What advantages might this "sameness" have for a community? Is this loss of diversity worthwhile? Explain in the comment box below.

If you get the chance, here is a real life example of a Utopian Society:

Check it out when you get a chance and tell me what you think.

What do you think of our society today? Should we continue to accept diversity and continue living our lives the way they are? Or should we consider changing to a Utopian society? Think about this, we will be doing a writing assignment on this topic this week.

  1. What I think is in our society today is more negatives than positives. I think it would benefit to have move back to utopian society I think it would take care of this materialistic world we live in.
