After the ceremony, Jonas noticed that people were acting differently towards him after the ceremony... there was hesitation in their interactions with him. We learned about the girl who was the receiver before Jonas... and how she had failed at it. Now the community was no longer allowed to use her name because she was a disgrace. Jonas received his assignment folder and was confused with the directions in it, they were too simple and yet complex...

The directions were you may lie in his assignment. He was confused with them because he was always not allowed to lie in his life. The other rule he was confused on is the you may ask anybody any personal question and they must answer it truthfully.
ReplyDeleteGood job! The fact that he was allowed to lie, caused him to freak out because then he wondered if everyone was allowed to lie with their new assignments. Then, he wondered if all adults were allowed to lie.
