Okay, so we finally got receive our first memory! This was the memory of sunlight. It was warm and embracing and it made Jonas feel comfortable and relaxed. He could feel it spreading across his face and down his arms in his memory.
Next we had the memory of snow. Jonas could feel the room temperature change to a very cold temperature. He could feel like "pin pricks" on his body when he learned that they were snowflakes landing on him. He realized he was sitting on a sled, with runners, on top of a hill. All of a sudden he started to rock back and forth and flew right down the hill in his memory. In real life, he was still laying on the sofa in the Annex.
We learned that snow no longer exists because the community changed to "sameness". This means EVERYTHING is the same because it is controlled. They even have a controlled climate to ensure nothing is unplanned for.
Jonas was confused though because he thought this was going to be painful but so far, he loved every minute of it!
Then, Jonas receives the memory of sun burn. Oh it was so painful, he had never experienced it before! Jonas thanked the Giver for sharing his memories with him and was sent directly home after his last memory transmission.
We don't think of sun burn as a big deal in our society.. what would be a painful memory for you to transmit to Jonas?
