The Giver Chapter 4-6 Summary

Okay, we haven't been on here to update our reading log in a while! Here is the summaries for Chapters 4-6.

Chapter 4:

We learned about requirements for volunteer hours and what age children are expected to start doing this at. We learned that those volunteer hours typically lead to your final assignment, which is your job for the rest of your life. Jonas went to the House of Old for his volunteer hours in which we read about the Ceremony of Release where Roberto was released. We aren't sure where he went but he left the building with a smile. Jonas volunteered with Asher and Fiona that day.

Chapter 5:

In this chapter we learned of the morning ritual the families performed every morning, this was the telling of dreams. Jonas shared his dream he had of Fiona and his mother informed he was having stirrings, which was completely normal for a child his age. The cure for this was a pill he would take every morning until he was old enough to be placed in the House of Old. Jonas was excited about taking this pill though because he recalled his friends taking these pills every morning.

Chapter 6:

In this Chapter we were at the Ceremony Auditorium. This is where the community gathered as a whole to participate in each child's ceremony of age. We learned that children age 4-6 wore jackets with buttons the back for interdependence purposes. At the age of 7, you received a jacket with buttons on the front. At the age of 9 you received your bicycle. We learned of the baby Caleb who fell in the river and died so the family was granted a replacement baby they also named Caleb.

Asher and Jonan were discussing some of the rumors they had heard about a guy who left the community because he didn't like his assignment. They referred to him leaving and going to Elsewhere.
